Peanut
Location
Tolga, QLD
About
The Big Peanut is one of the 'cornier' Big Things, and really only rates as a big thing because peanuts are so small. We could take it far more seriously without the cute smile and the hat. The Big Peanut is a front for the Big Peanut Fruit Shop. When you're next in the Atherton Tablelands, take a side road to find the Big Peanut, just north of Tolga on the Kennedy Highway.

About
The Big Pelican is located in Noosa. I believe his beak holds more than his belly can. Though it has yet to be verified.

Penguin
Location
Penguin, TAS
About
Truthfully, the Tasmanian township of Penguin's premier man-made attraction is not so much a "Big" penguin, as a fairly large one. Standing three metres tall and solidly constructed from cement, this so-called Big Thing owes its unusally benign appearance to the fact that it was created in the likeness of a penguin in a children's story book, which belonged to the design engineer's daughter. The Big Penguin park is an excellent spot from which to admire the views across Bass Strait.
The structure is located on Penguin's main street, in a very picturesque foreshore reserve. Alongside it is a commemorative plaque which suggests that the unveiling of the Big Penguin, in 1975, was a big occasion in this small town on the island state's north-west coast.
Penguin also boasts many Small Penguins (the municipal rubbish bins are adorned with penguin motif) and Medium-Sized Penguins (these identical saluting fibreglass statues are placed outside some businesses on the main street).

Pineapple (Nambour)
Location
Nambour, QLD
About
Located just off the Pacific Highway at Nambour, about 75km north of Brisbane, this fibreglass erection is all about sun, with it's bold, strong colours resplendent in the Northern sunshine. Inside is a spiral walkway, which winds past an exhibit focusing on the work and history of the plantation, to the viewing platform, which commands excellent views over the surrounding plantation, including it's sibling the Big Macadamia.

Potato
Location
Robertson, NSW
About
A truly appalling Big Thing, memorable only for it's complete lack of any appealing or noteworthy features, other than it's unfortunate resemblance to a giant lump of excrement : hence it's more common epithet 'The Big Turd', and in fact the public toilets of adjacent 'Potato World' are still contained within, long since closed off and abandoned. Yes, they do grow a lot of potatoes here, but is that enough to inspire someone to design and build such an eyesore? The answer, sadly and obviously, is yes. Let's hope that after the enormous success of the film Babe, shot in this area, we can look forward to a Big Pig in the near future.

Prawn
Location
Ballina, NSW
About
Built by the same people who did the Big Oyster, the Big Prawn can be found outside Ballina on the NSW north coast. If you compare the two big things (the Oyster and the Prawn) you'll note some similiarity in design features - the same glass viewing area and the same style and colour shed supporting the structure. Try to imagine the Big Prawn in a Big Prawn cocktail with a bit of shredded lettuce, Thousand Island Dressing and cocktail fork. Delish!
